Engineering with Impact: Join us at the GEDC Industry Forum 2020
The next GEDC Industry Forum will take place from the 6th to 8th of July 2020 at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada. Hosted by the Faculty of Engineering, McMaster University, the invitation-only, highly interactive event will build on the themes and initiatives developed to-date, tacking topics such as socially conscious engineering and ethics, diversity and inclusion, creativity and commercialising innovation with particular focus on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“University-industry collaboration was a foundation block of the GEDC, and its importance has increased manifold in the last decade. The reason is the alignment of global trends on several fronts: on one hand, the version number on industrial revolutions after 4.0 is expected to give way to a rapid continuum of evolution thanks to disruptive enabling technologies, on the other, the purpose oriented, anxiety ridden, impatient Generation Alpha is in line to constitute the student body to solve problems and design with an eye towards the sustainability of life on the planet. The employability, mobility, and productivity of engineering students, as well as collaboration on open innovation to fuel research and development are all made possible by the dialogue between academic and industrial engineering leaders that the GEDC Industry Forum enables.”

Our 2020 Host:
Ranked among the world’s top engineering schools, the Faculty of Engineering plays a significant role in helping McMaster University earn its reputation as one of Canada’s most innovative universities. The school places an emphasis on experiential, problem-based learning and an interdisciplinary approach to collaboration, resulting in smarter insights, ground-breaking ideas and greater optimism. McMaster was recently ranked second in the world by Times Higher Education in global impact, which looks at how well an institution advances the SDGs.
“The GEDC Industry Forum provides the opportunity to bring together leading thinkers to discuss how best to transform engineering education and strengthen ties between academia and the private and public sectors. As a champion of research and education that emphasises impact, the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University is proud to host this influential and forward-thinking event that explores solutions to real-world challenges. We anticipate that the outcomes of the first-ever forum to be held in Canada will facilitate important strategies and implementations.”
